I saw someone posted this on Sunday night, and on Monday I happened to be going into the city, so I walked over. The shop is Swee by Sugar Less Concept, at Shop 1/1/15 Foveaux St, Surry Hills. It’s on the road out of Central toward the metro, and you only walk in a little way before you reach it.
The mochi is only sold Monday to Thursday, 3:30 to 5:30pm. The cafe closes at 3pm before that. I got there before 3 and asked about the mochi. I asked if I could order a drink and wait inside, and they said no. The kitchen had already closed, so I couldn’t order food or drinks. The person in charge of the mochi arrives at 3:30, and then they reopen. So I wandered off to another cafe, bought a drink, sat there until it was almost time, and then went back and queued at the door.
What We Ordered
There are lots of flavours, and I’m bad at choosing, but I still struggled my way to three.
Pistachio raspberry and taro with crisps
I’m a pistachio person and a taro person, so I picked this combo. A post I saw said it’s good with the crisps, so I got those. Eat it fast, or the crisps go soft. I ate this one before I got on the train home. The first bite had a very strong taro flavour, solid and thick, and the pistachio cream seemed to disappear. But if you taste slowly, that salty, nutty pistachio flavour shows up. The raspberry was juicier and sweeter than I expected, but not sugary sweet, more refreshing. The combo doesn’t clash. Maybe that’s just because I like each one separately.
Frozen mango pomelo sago with coconut flakes
I chose a frozen one and didn’t know what to pair it with, so I took the staff member’s suggestion of coconut flakes. I only got home and ate it more than an hour later, and it had only just started to melt, still ice cold. The mango was the strongest taste, and this was the sweetest of the three. I only had a few bites, wrapped up the rest and put it in the fridge, and finished it the next day. The slight bitterness of the grapefruit balances out the mango’s sweetness, which I liked.
Matcha strawberry nama chocolate with Oreo
I couldn’t decide, so the staff member recommended this one and said it’s not sweet, a bit bitter. That was true. The strawberry was actually a little sweet, which surprised me. The strawberry cream is light, sweet and not cloying. The nama chocolate was slightly melted and very smooth. The matcha taste wasn’t that strong. Even when I ate the leftovers the next day, I still wanted more matcha, because the strawberry was too loud.
The three mochi came to $36 in total.

Overall
The mochi skin is really thin. It’s chewy but doesn’t take over because there’s too much of it, and there’s a decent amount of filling inside. I’m not that into sweet things, and I wouldn’t travel for a dessert, but the sweetness and flavours of this mochi are what I like. If I’m passing by and have time, I’ll stop to buy one when I’m craving something. The opening hours really aren’t friendly to people who work, though. I hope anyone who wants to try it gets to.
