Metartworld Port Melbourne Review – Tickets, Parking And What’s Inside

Metartworld Port Melbourne Review

Metartworld is a scrap metal art gallery in Port Melbourne, and it holds the Guinness World Record for the largest indoor scrap metal art gallery. We went on a rainy day with the kids. It was a lot more fun than I expected.

Downstairs – The Metal Sculptures

The whole ground floor is sculptures made from scrap metal. Over 200 of them. Transformers, Iron Man, dinosaurs, gorillas, pirates, motorbikes, some strange cars. You can touch them, sit on them, ride them and pretend to drive them. The boys went crazy. Every sculpture needed a photo.

There’s a 9D cinema near the entrance. Our kid got scared so we skipped it.

Upstairs – The Starry Sky Rooms

Totally different up here. Glowing rooms with a light tunnel, a mirror maze and colour-changing star lamps. It’s easy to get good photos. I don’t like mirrors and lots of lights, but this wasn’t scary. My kid walked through it a few times.

Hold your kids’ hands. They run, and they hit the glass.

The Floor Game

There’s a light-up floor hopscotch game, and it’s free to play as much as you want. I played five rounds with a little boy and ran out of energy before he did. Our two kids went crazy on it. One ended up on the floor slapping the squares with his hands because he wouldn’t stop.

That game alone was worth the ticket for me. Both kids slept in an hour the next morning.

VR And Extras

VR costs extra. You buy a game card at the venue, and it was about $10 a go when we went (buy four, get one free). My kid played every VR game they had. There’s also a big spinning ride. Kids love it, but skip it if anyone gets car sick.

A few of the staff speak Chinese, which helped.

Tickets, Hours And Parking

We paid $35 for a child and $45 for an adult. Prices change and online tickets can be cheaper, so check the Metartworld website first. Entry is in two-hour sessions, and Time Out Melbourne says to book ahead online. Two hours was enough for us.

Opening hours are 10am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 7pm on weekends. One other listing says 6pm every day, so check before you go.

The address is 155 Boundary Street, Port Melbourne. There’s free street parking right outside. If you don’t want to drive, take the number 235 bus to Ingles Street and walk 8 minutes, or walk 11 minutes from Montague light rail station.

Lots of kids. Mostly local families when we went, and a few groups of tourists. Good for toddlers up to the early teens.

The Rest Of The Day

We were staying in the city, so we went on to Queen Victoria Market, which is huge, with snacks, fruit and seafood. Then shopping at District Docklands and a Japanese dinner. The next morning we left for the Great Ocean Road.
