Walked past Fufu once before and it hadn’t opened yet, so this time I went back on purpose. Small sky-blue shop in Market Square, close to the supermarket, and it looks a lot like one of those little kissaten tucked down a Japanese side street. Blue and white all over, hard to take a bad photo.
Fufu is in Market Square Shopping Centre on Mains Road, Sunnybank. It’s tiny, with hardly any seating, so think of it as a takeaway spot more than somewhere to settle in. It gets busy and the popular sandos run out, weekends especially, so go early.
Fruit sandos were already sold out when I got there, which seems to happen most days. Ordered the savoury ones instead.
What we ordered
Pork katsu sando
My pick of the lot. Served hot, the pork juicy inside, soft shokupan around it. If you only get one, get this.
Prawn katsu sando
Thick prawn patty, crisp outside, tender in the middle. The sauce reminded me a little of the one in a McDonald’s fish burger, but the filling’s far more generous, so it feels like a proper meal. Better than I expected.
Beef sando
The beef one was fine. I’d still go back for the pork katsu over it.
The drinks
Fufu’s signature drinks come topped with a blue foam, a bit salty, a bit sweet. The Fufu Matcha has it on top and I really liked it. The Fufu Coco is coconut water with the blue foam floating on it. Also had a hot matcha latte, not too sweet, which worked well next to the sandwiches.

Worth it
Another Sunnybank spot I’d go back to. If you like Japanese-style cafes, worth a try. Fufu Sando is at Shop 11B, Market Square, 341 Mains Road, Sunnybank QLD 4109. Opening hours have changed a few times since it opened, so check before you go.
More Sunnybank in our EggYolk Cat Lounge review, or if matcha’s your thing, try ODAYA TEA on the Gold Coast.
