Peppy Planet Bayswater Review

Peppy Planet Bayswater Review

Finally, somewhere to send the kid to do actual work. Not really, but it felt that way. Went on their first day of trial opening, holiday pricing, $35 a kid, adults free, no time limit, you just have to wear non-slip socks at the door. Weekday entry is $25 for 4 hours. Weekends, public holidays and school holidays, $35 for 4 hours. Compared to the kids cafes and indoor playgrounds nearby, that’s genuinely decent value, especially with adults getting in free.

There’s a car park right out front, and an indoor ninja course next door for older kids if your little one wants more of a physical challenge than the main play area offers. Walk in and there’s a claw machine right at the entrance, then you keep walking, the actual entry point is right at the far end of the building.

The Play Equipment

All the usual stuff is there, slides, climbing blocks, a play kitchen set up, a pretend grocery shopping area, a fire truck, a ball pit. Standard, but well done.

Tree Surfing

This is one of the standout features. It’s a two storey indoor tree surfing structure, kids need to wear a helmet and a safety harness, and it’s only for kids six and up. Genuinely thrilling to watch, though there was a queue for it the whole time we were there.

The Corn Pit

The most distinctive thing in the whole place is their grain silo setup, a deep pit filled with fake corn kernels instead of sand. You pick it up by the handful and it’s surprisingly heavy, walk on it and it’s slippery underfoot, and it’s got this cool, slightly odd sensation to it. Both the texture and the sound it makes are oddly soothing.

The second anyone, kid or adult, steps into that pit, they switch straight into work mode. Someone’s pushing a little cart loaded with grain, someone else is lifting the grain baskets, someone’s manning the sorting machine, someone’s sifting with a dustpan, and one kid just decided to turn himself into a human beanbag chair and lie there.

The Cafe

The onsite cafe does chips and chicken nuggets, menu’s fairly basic, but a mum at the table next to us said the chips were genuinely good. There’s also a little shelf of toys for sale near the cafe area. On the way out we grabbed our kid a balloon from the inflatable vending machine, bribed and coaxed him into the car with it, and called it a day.

Worth It?

Overall, really good experience. The corn pit is excellent, messy in the sense that bits of fake corn end up everywhere, but nowhere near as fiddly to deal with as sand. Tree surfing is the real standout feature, and the climbing structure goes up high enough that even kids in the younger primary years would get a kick out of it. It’s still in its trial opening phase, so expect some things to change as they settle in. Worth picking a weekday to try it out first and see how your own kid takes to it.
