I found a great local playground near home and wanted to pass it on: Wollundry Park in Pennant Hills.
If you’re driving, put in Yarrara Road, Pennant Hills. It’s right behind the library. If you’re taking the train, it couldn’t be easier, since it’s directly across from Pennant Hills train station.
The Main Play Tower and Slide
The centrepiece of the playground is a tall wooden tower with a long tunnel slide winding down from the top, painted in green and silver with a bright red exit at the bottom.
The tower itself has koala artwork worked into the panels, which is a nice touch and ties the playground back to the local bushland setting. There was a boy in a full dinosaur costume clambering around near the base of the slide when we were there, clearly having the time of his life, which says a lot about how much fun the equipment is even for kids who aren’t dressed for climbing.
Why We Liked It
The whole playground is fully fenced, so it felt very safe letting the kids run around without me worrying about them wandering off toward the road or the car park. There’s a good range of play options too. There’s a yellow bus-themed panel for the kids to sit at and pretend to drive, complete with a steering wheel and dials, and a rowing-boat style seesaw mounted on a spring where they can bounce back and forth pretending to be athletes out on the water.
The equipment is new as well. The playground only reopened in July 2024, and the swings and slides feel great to use because of it. It’s also surrounded by big trees, so there’s a lot of shade, which makes a big difference on a hot day when you don’t want everyone getting sunburnt or overheated after twenty minutes.
The Bush Boardwalk
Off to one side of the main play area, there’s a boardwalk path with railings that winds through the gum trees. It’s a nice change of pace from the play equipment itself, since it gives younger kids somewhere safe to run along and explore a bit of the bush setting without actually leaving the park. It also means there’s a natural, shaded spot to wander through if the kids need a break from the climbing.
The Yellow Spinning Boat
One of the equipment pieces the kids couldn’t get enough of was a bright yellow boat-shaped seat that spins and rocks on its base. We had two kids in it at once, both grinning ear to ear, and it seemed to be a favourite alongside the slide and the tower.
The Perfect Day Out Nearby
There’s a nice little routine you can build around this playground. Start by taking the kids next door to Pennant Hills Library for a bit of reading, since it’s only a minute’s walk away. Then let them run wild at the playground. Once they’ve worn themselves out, head over to Market Place to grab whatever you need for dinner on the way home. It works out perfectly as a half day, front to back.
