Eltham North Adventure Playground

Eltham North Adventure Playground

Winters in Melbourne can be tricky—showers of rain pop up without warning. That is the reason the Eltham North Adventure Playground such a wonderful spot. The slides and swings are all under cover, so even if it rains, the kids can still play. The BBQ spot also has shelters, with plenty of barbecues available, which is definitely a bonus.

Today, we wanted to keep things simple and didn’t want to drive far, so Eltham North Adventure Playground was the answer. It’s next to the farm—just walk across the little bridge and you’re there. The playground is bigger than you’d expect, with enough to keep families busy for hours.

A bit of local history: the original playground was lost in a bushfire, but the community rebuilt it in 2018. The new design is mostly timber, a bit larger, and beautiful.

Kids have a lot to choose from: all kinds of slides, climbing ropes, swings (with options for all ages), a flying fox, plus a wheelchair-accessible Liberty Swing. There’s sand and water play too—my son couldn’t get enough of the digger. Picnic areas are undercover, so even parties and group gatherings aren’t ruined by bad weather.

Facilities make a big difference, and this place has it sorted: plenty of parking, clean toilets, BBQs, all close to the play areas.

What stands out:

  • Sand and water play is shaded.
  • Slides come in different sizes for kids big and small.
  • There are cute, wooden playhouses for pretend play.
  • Parents get shaded seating too—watching the kids doesn’t have to mean sitting in the sun.

Honestly, there’s a lot going on here. The playground is divided up into different areas, so you never feel crowded, and there’s something for every kid, whether they love slides, swings, digging, or climbing. Even the Liberty Swing is available—you just need to grab the key from the farm next door.

The playground’s on Wattletree Road in Eltham North. The farm is only a short three-minute walk away or just around the corner if you’re driving. The Diamond Creek Trail runs right by the playground, so bring a bike or just head out for a walk. Parking is easy—you won’t have to circle for ages.

This is the kind of place where you can easily spend the whole day. It’s perfect for families with young kids. And if you get hungry after all that running around, the Eltham North shopping strip is close and has plenty of cafes and restaurants.
