Last week I stayed at a place that’s really very hard to describe! Sydney drive one hour, at the Campbelltown side near a koala small town hidden inside a forest, the whole Airbnb is just one section of a hundred-year old modified train carriage!
Yes it’s just really a train carriage, not that kind of decoration style like a train, it’s really like they took one section of an old train and dragged it over and modified and built it into that kind of place.
Push open the door and I blanked for a moment, a bit don’t know how to describe that feeling, just is a very strange crossing-through feeling but not that kind that was deliberately made!
Inside there was one notebook journal placed on the table, I thought it was that kind of thing you just casually flip through as decoration, but I ended up sitting down and looking through it for almost half an hour.
It recorded where this train came from, how it was modified, what was happening in Australia during the time it was in service, and every page all have a bit of old feeling but not that kind that was intentionally made old, it’s really just been placed there for very many years, that kind of old.
The carriage inside things also have very many original versions, train menus, various vintage handbags, old style leather bags, wool carpet, wood-made various small things, and there’s still a whole set of vintage dining utensils.
I’m not very good at taking photos but randomly pointing at whatever and pressing down still came out quite nice looking (so actually that made it more uncomfortable because it’s saying it’s not that I took them well).
Next door there’s still one preserved old style ticket booth, the owner put various coins and vintage old telephones all placed inside, I browsed it for quite a long time, much more nice to browse than I expected.
Then there were some parts I feel a bit surprised by.
Behind the house there’s one hiking trail, approximately one kilometer, not hard to walk, the whole journey has signal (this is very important, I rely on signal a lot).
Then on the road we found koala droppings and claw marks.
I know this sounds not very glamorous but at that time it was really a bit surprising, just is that kind of oh it was just here feeling.
On the side there’s a BBQ and bonfire area, in the evening we sat there grilling things and didn’t really chat about anything especially meaningful, just sitting.
Just is one hour from Sydney, parking also very convenient!
I feel some places you go you will feel it was a worthwhile trip but also there’s nothing especially you want to say about it. But this place, after I came back I mentioned it to quite a few people!
If you are interested in staying there, just search for 100 year old Railway Carriage on Airbnb!
