We started this site back in 2019 for a fairly boring reason: we could never remember when the school holidays actually started. Every term we’d be scrolling through five different state education department PDFs trying to work out if the last day of Term 2 in Victoria lined up with anyone else’s, usually while also trying to book something before it sold out. It felt like there should be one place that just had the dates, without the PDF and without the login.
That’s still the core of what this site does. We keep the term dates and public holidays for every state and territory in one spot, updated well ahead of time, so you can actually plan around them instead of finding out three days before the holidays start. Along the way it grew into something bigger than a dates page, because once you’re already looking up when the holidays are, the next question is always what on earth you’re going to do with the kids for two weeks.
How We Put This Together
Term dates get checked directly against each state education department’s own calendar, and we update them the moment a department changes something, which does happen more often than you’d think. If you ever spot a date that looks off, tell us and we’ll chase it down straight away.
For the parenting and activity content, we try to only write about what we’ve actually done or genuinely looked into properly. If we’re covering a school holiday program or an indoor playground, that’s usually because someone on our team has been there with their own kids, or we’ve spoken directly with a parent who has. Where the topic is something more technical, like Child Care Subsidy rules or tax questions around holiday programs, we check it against the actual government source rather than repeating whatever’s floating around parent forums, and we link to that source so you can double check it yourself.
We’re not teachers or accountants, and we’re upfront about that. Where it matters, particularly with term dates, we ask people with a genuine education background to look over what we’ve published before it goes up.
Who’s Behind It
This site is run by a small team who got tired of the same holiday scramble everyone else deals with, and who like writing about the stuff that actually helps: what a place is really like once you’ve paid for parking and stood in the queue, what a program actually costs after the subsidy, which theme park is worth the drive and which one isn’t.
We’re not affiliated with any state education department, and we don’t get paid to rank one activity provider above another. If a listing in our directory is marked as featured, that’s a paid placement and we say so.
