We were simply amazed by the truffle honey cake from this Sydney deli – Deli Republic, Rosebery. In addition to selling ham and making sandwiches and paninis, they also sell some small grocery items like pasta sauces, canned fish in oil, and small Italian snacks. And they also sell some cakes, such as Eastern European honey, lemon cream cake, tiramisu, goat cheese cake, and more. Recently, we discovered their new truffle honey cake for the truffle season! It’s a bit pricey at $15, but we still wanted to give it a try!
What we think
The truffle blends well and is not overpowering. You can see that the cake is dense and delicate when you cut into it. The hard cream made from butter, honey, and truffle instantly spreads in your mouth with an amazing flavour! It also has a unique “sweet and salty” taste!
The first taste is sweet, followed by a hint of savoury at the end, balancing the flavour. We’ve never experienced this taste before! After eating, there is a lingering honey aroma in the mouth.
With the truffle tag, the price is definitely a bit high. This piece is $15.
