Brisbane Flower Market in Rocklea

Brisbane's Largest Flower Market in Rocklea

We’ve always had a special love for buying and arranging flowers. Having flowers at home instantly lifts the mood. We used to think that flowers in Brisbane were expensive, until we stumbled upon this fresh flower market in Rocklea. The Brisbane Flower Market is a collection of several wholesale flower vendors. Some flower shops in Brisbane’s city area also source their flowers from here. You can imagine how great the value for money is when you buy flowers directly from here!

What do you wear to a flower market?

All the fresh flowers here are kept in a refrigerated room, and the fake ones are displayed outside. If you plan to spend some time selecting flowers inside, we recommend wearing a jacket because the temperature inside is super low to keep the flowers fresh.

Our favourite shops

Among the vendors here, we highly recommend “Flower Lover.” We bought flowers from here this time, and they have a wide variety of flowers at really competitive prices. Small roses are around $12.5 per bunch, with about 10 stems in a bunch. Larger roses range from $15 to $20 per bunch, depending on the quality. Sunflowers are about $14 per bunch, with around 5 stems in a bunch. Other flowers and plants range from $8 to $35. We bought a mix of different ones, around 4 or 5 bunches, to arrange on my own. If you plan to gift them, you can pick the flowers you want to include and then ask them to help with the packaging. The packaging fee is $10. If you’re taking them home to arrange yourself, they’ll wrap them up nicely in kraft paper for you!

The Brisbane Flower Market

The Brisbane Flower Market is not very large, and most flower shops and other retailers place telephone orders and pick up their flowers around 6-8 AM. There are a total of 5 wholesale stores in the market. To the right as you enter, there’s a store specialising in event and wedding flowers, and to the left is Lynch Flower.

Flower Lover is a shop we often visit, right next to Lynch Flower. Their flowers are affordable. Their arrangements are really visually pleasing, and they probably have the most extensive selection of artificial flowers in this market.

Here are some tips for choosing flowers at Brisbane Flower Market

  1. Turn the bouquet upside down and check the cut ends of the stems. They should look white or green. If the stem ends are split, dark, or curled, it’s old flowers and may wilt quickly.
  2. Fresh flowers are stored in water, so check the cleanliness of the water and container. If the water is dirty or there’s slime at the stem ends, don’t buy it; the flowers are not fresh.
  3. Leaves usually wilt before the flowers, so if you see yellowing or spots on the leaves, avoid buying them. This is particularly useful when purchasing lilies or chrysanthemums.
