Explore the Enchanting “Tree Church and Gardens” in New Zealand

Tree Church New Zealand

Near the town of Cambridge on New Zealand’s North Island, you’ll find a beautiful garden. Within this garden stands a church that has been meticulously grown from trees – yes, it was grown bit by bit!

This masterpiece is the result of Barry Cox’s four years of effort. He began designing and planting it in April 2011. It’s appropriately named the TreeChurch. This project combines Barry Cox’s love for church architecture and trees, resulting in a living and breathing small chapel.

The Enchanting “Tree Church and Gardens”

The TreeChurch sits on a lush green lawn and is enclosed by a rectangular wall. This wall is formed by low shrubs and trees pruned into circular shapes, all neatly arranged in proportion.

Within this 3-acre garden, you’ll also find a circular labyrinthine pathway and a tranquil pond surrounded by flowers and foliage. The entire garden boasts emerald grass and trees thoughtfully arranged. Various tree species such as oak, maple, elm, ginkgo, beech, poplar, dawn redwood, and New Zealand’s unique Nyssa grace the garden. When the diverse flora blooms, the surroundings transform into a fragrant realm accompanied by bird songs, evoking a fairytale ambiance.

The TreeChurch evokes feelings of serenity, contemplation, joy, and solace among its visitors. A straight path leading to the sacred space lies before the church. Outside the chapel, a winding labyrinthine pathway, thoughtfully designed by Barry, serves as a meditative route.

Since the completion of the TreeChurch, it has captivated every visitor and has even become a sought-after wedding venue for many couples. This living church stands as a witness to the growing happiness of an increasing number of people.
