Shell Beach – Western Australia’s Beach Without a Grain of Sand

Shell Beach

Shell Beach is one of the must-visit attractions on the way north of Perth in Western Australia. Located approximately 780 kilometres north of Perth, in the Shark Bay area, it is close to the Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort.

The entire beach is made up of billions of small white seashells, which cover the entire coastline and create a stunning view. The seawater appears turquoise blue from a distance, resembling a fairyland. It is particularly beautiful!

Shell Beach – Things you need to know

Shell Beach is known as the most luxurious beach in the world. It spans over 110 kilometres, accumulating a thickness of 7 to 10 meters over a period of more than 4,000 years. It forms a white world composed of billions of seashells.

When looking from a distance, the entire coastline appears to be covered with pure white snowflakes. As you drive and park by the roadside, surrounded by simple greenery, you may not realise what awaits at this destination. However, as you walk towards the beach, stretching for over a dozen kilometres, you are greeted by a breathtaking sight of pure white seashells. It is so stunning that it takes your breath away. What is even more astonishing is that along this stretch of coastline, there is not a single grain of sand, only these beautiful small seashells.

Where to stay

For accommodation, you can stay in the nearby town of Denham or at the Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort. Camping at their campgrounds is also a great option. The night sky is incredibly beautiful, and you might be pleasantly surprised by the sight of the Milky Way and shooting stars.

It takes about half an hour by car to drive from Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort to Shell Beach. When travelling north in Western Australia, visitors usually make a stop at Shell Beach after visiting Dolphin Island.
