The popular light and shadow show, Lightscape, that went viral last year in Melbourne, is finally making a comeback!
It’s a worldwide sensation, with free admission for children, over 100,000 light components, a 1.8-kilometre audio-visual journey, and stunning visuals! The Lightscape lantern exhibition at Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens has left a deep impression on those who have visited the enchanting nighttime garden.

Immerse yourself in an 8-meter sphere with over 20,000 moving LED lights, singing trees, and a sparkling garden of fire. Surrounding you are colour-changing installations, soundscapes, and large-scale lighting sculptures. Experience the new two-kilometre lakeside trail and admire the beauty of nature after dark.
The exhibition encompasses various themes such as nature and energy, and the on-site sound effects are truly a grand production, taking you into a magical immersive experience. The combination of lasers, mist, and music depicts breathtaking natural landscapes that strike at the heart. The plants seem to come to life at night, narrating the past and present of this land from ancient times to the present!

Adult tickets are normally priced at $36, and on Wednesdays, they are $32.
Family tickets (1 adult and 3 children or 2 adults and 2 children, where the children must be below 12 years old. Children under 2 years old are free of charge) are normally priced at $120, and on Wednesdays, they are $104.
It takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to explore the entire light and shadow exhibition, so it is recommended to book tickets in advance on the official website.
Additional tips
The botanical garden can be a bit chilly at night, so it’s recommended to dress warmly to avoid getting cold. The terrain inside varies in elevation, so it’s advisable to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes!
It can be quite dark inside with limited streetlights, which may make it easy for children to get lost. It is recommended that parents keep a close eye on their children or have them wear something that emits light for easy identification!
