Last weekend, we went to see “XSWL,” the latest exhibition at White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney.
Yes, the exhibition title comes from the Chinese internet slang “笑S我了” (laughing to death), but it’s not just about lighthearted humour. Instead, it uses satire, absurdity, and visual irony to reflect different facets of contemporary Chinese society!
The “XSWL” Exhibition brings together outstanding works from multiple contemporary Chinese artists, showcasing their unique perspectives on humor, satire, and social phenomena!
Inside the gallery, the artworks ranging from installations to videos and paintings!
These works may seem playful, but they carry hidden layers of meaning, like stories embedded in everyday life.
We were initially worried that bringing a kid to an art exhibition might be boring for her, but surprisingly, she was captivated by the shapes and colours in some of the pieces!
Art doesn’t always have to be understood, it’s more about experiencing and feeling it.
White Rabbit Gallery is always a great place to wander through at a leisurely pace. Their exhibitions are consistently experimental yet engaging, and “XSWL” is particularly special.
