Unfortunately we don’t have a Disneyland here in Australia. Currently there are a total of 12 Disney theme parks around the world. However only 6 of them are what we call – the “castle parks” and they are located in California, Florida, Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong.

Disneyland Gold Coast was nearly a reality in the 90s

We were very nearly a done deal in the 1990s. However, in the final meeting in Burbank, California, Mr Eisner stepped in and said he wanted to open the park in China instead. They were looking at Disney as a whole corporation, not just a theme park. And that’s how Hong Kong got a Disneyland instead.

Walt Disney Company proposed to put a Disney Resort in Sydney in 2007

In 2007, Walt Disney Company’s plan to put a Disney Resort on prime waterfront land around White Bay and Glebe Island in 2007-08 however the project was closed because of the high infrastructure costs.

A Disneyland To Open Up In Adelaide?

In 2022, it reported that a South Australian businessman was the latest person to try and open negotiations with Disney Parks and Resorts although neither the South Australian government nor Walt Disney Company have made any official bids or offers as yet!
