Heide Museum’s New Exhibition ‘Hair Pieces’

Heide Museum's New Exhibition 'Hair Pieces'

We visited the latest exhibition at Melbourne’s Heide Museum. The exhibition is titled “Hair Pieces,” and all the artworks are related to hair. It’s very interesting!

The art museum is not large, but it’s thoughtfully designed. Recommend visiting on a weekday when it’s less crowded for a better experience. You can also chat with the volunteer guides, who are very friendly and will eagerly share the history of the museum and the stories of its founders.

What we think

There are two main galleries. The first one is located on the first floor of the main building and features an exhibition about hair. The artists explore the theme of hair through various mediums such as sculpture, painting, photography, conceptual, and performance art, offering diverse and novel perspectives on the subject.

Curator Melissa Keys conceived the idea for an exhibition on hair ten years ago. Hair is a very common part of the human body, yet it is also one of the most primal extensions of ourselves.

The second gallery is situated in the modernist home of Heide founders John and Sunday Reed, which has been converted into an art exhibition hall. This space houses more handcrafted textiles, paintings, and posters.

The exhibition is not crowded on the day we went! After viewing the exhibition, we had brunch at Heide Kitchen next to the museum!

You can book tickets through the link on Instagram or purchase them on-site https://www.heide.com.au/exhibitions/. Admission is $25 for adults, and the exhibition runs until October 6.
