Abrolhos Islands is an amazing destination in Western Australia. The Islands are located along the coral reef coastline in central Australia, closest to the city of Geraldton. Due to their pristine and untouched nature, the scenery is truly breathtaking. To visit and explore this area, one must take a plane as it is the only means of transportation available.
Exploring Abrolhos Islands
The way to explore it is similar to a day tour in the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, with a focus on snorkelling. The tour departs from Geraldton on a large catamaran with excellent facilities. They provide morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea onboard. They also have two tender boats, one large and one small, for transportation and sightseeing on the islands. The tour company sets up a temporary camp on the island with shade shelters and beach chairs. They provide complimentary snorkelling gear and have a temporary floating platform in the sea for resting. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
The snorkelling experience on this island is really great. Apart from abundant fish, the coral visibility is not high. However, the Abrolhos Islands have retained a relatively pristine appearance, ensuring an exceptional experience without disappointment!
The snorkelling spots are close to the coast, estimated to be around 100 meters away, with an average depth of 1.5-2 meters. The water temperature is moderate, and the sea conditions are generally calm!
