Carss Park Playground is a hidden gem for families in Sydney’s south.
It’s so close to our home, but every time we come here it feels like a mini holiday. We were planning to go for a coastal walk today, but the wind coming straight from Antarctica was way too strong and freezing — honestly felt like my kid was about to get blown away like a balloon. Safety first, so we switched plans and came to this seaside park instead.
Haven’t been Carss Park Playground in a while, and it’s still just as lovely as I remember. This place is seriously perfect for kids.
Carss Park Playground reviews
The playground is thoughtfully divided into zones, so both toddlers and older kids can enjoy themselves. Part of the playground is designed specifically for younger children. It’s fully enclosed, so you don’t have to worry about them running off toward the water. There are swings, climbing structures, and lots of rope and wooden play elements — very natural, simple, and safe.
The other section is better suited for older kids, with more challenging climbing frames, jumping equipment, and even a zipline.
After playtime, you can head over to the nearby beach area. There’s a fenced swimming enclosure in the Georges River, which is great for water play.
There’s also a beautiful little lagoon where you can swim in summer — the water is calm, so it’s perfect for younger kids. They can play by the shore, dig in the sand, and enjoy the water without needing to go to a proper beach.
Playground mode: ON. Slides, swings, climbing frames — kids instantly switch into full energy release mode.
The park has a huge open grass area — perfect for picnics, BBQs, ball games, or even just lying down for the afternoon. The breeze makes it extra relaxing.

Another bonus — it’s not overly crowded, which makes the whole experience even better. And if you get tired, there’s a super convenient café in the park (with toilets nearby). Coffee, juice, snacks — everything you need. Or just bring a picnic mat and enjoy the sunshine on the grass.
Overall, this is a perfect spot for a relaxed family weekend. It would be even better on a warmer day — can’t wait for summer.
There’s parking available in the park. We usually park at the Kogarah Swimming Pool car park on Carwar Avenue and walk a short distance with the stroller. You can also enter via Bunyala Street, where there’s another car park — just note that it fills up quickly on weekends, so it’s best to arrive early.
