Originally planned to go to Wandin East to pick cherries but found out the season was already over and picking had ended. But we quickly found a strawberry picking farm online, switched plans, and immediately organised a weekend trip with friends.
Naturipe Fruits – Bacchus Marsh Cherry Farm
Address: 638 Bacchus Marsh Rd, Bacchus Marsh VIC 3340 (once you arrive there will be a sign telling you to drive another 1km to the strawberry farm, just keep going)
Tickets:
Adult $10 AUD (includes 500g)
Kid $5 AUD (includes 250g)
Extra strawberries charged at $14 AUD/kg
Tips: the farm gives each person a small box, if you can close the box you don’t need to weigh it and can take it directly, very convenient.
Strawberry picking experience
The farm is really big. You can just choose any quiet area and start picking.
Strawberry plants are quite low, so you need to squat down to find the bigger strawberries hidden underneath.
Remember to move the leaves, a lot of big strawberries are hidden underneath. Eating while picking is part of the fun, the strawberries are sweet and juicy straight from the plant.
Season runs from around October to May, still plenty of time but better to plan ahead. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, easier for squatting and moving around.
Didn’t get to pick cherries this time, but strawberries gave us another kind of sweet experience. While the season is still on, it’s a great idea to go with friends and family for a relaxing day out.
