Fig Picking Near Sydney: Best Harvest Times and Locations

Bilpin is about 1.5 hours from Sydney and really suits an easy autumn day trip. It’s part of the Blue Mountains area, and most spots are within a 5-minute drive, so the whole day feels super relaxed.

Bilpin Blossom Farm

We actually found this place by accident on the way to Hillbilly. The sign wasn’t obvious, but we saw “fresh figs” and decided to turn in. They don’t offer pick-your-own.

This season they mainly sell fresh figs and nuts. We didn’t plan to buy anything at first, but after tasting them, they were way too sweet to walk away. One box is 20 dollars with three different varieties, and honestly very very good.

TNT Produce

We arrived around 10am and there’s a big free parking area right at the entrance. A lady welcomed us and it was almost empty, felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Entry fee is 10 dollars per person. You can eat freely inside with no time limit. Everyone gets a small basket, put it on a trolley and start picking.

Right at the entrance there are rows of persimmon trees, a lot of them already very ripe. I picked one straight from the tree, super soft and sweet. Further in there are chillies, eggplants and zucchini, but not all were ready yet.

There are many rows of strawberries, slightly more on the sour side but still nice to pick and eat. We picked some red ones to take home for jam. Apples have two varieties, including Fuji. We picked and peeled them on the spot, definitely recommend bringing a peeler, it feels like a mini apple omakase.

Figs were what I was most excited for. There are only a few rows, and many are either not ripe yet or overripe and already opened with insects inside. The purple ones are quite limited, so better to go early. We heard later in the day people were saying all the good figs were gone.

At the end we bought quite a lot of persimmons and figs, around 60 dollars worth (not including entry). Honestly pretty reasonable, and the whole fruit picking experience is still very worth it.

They update what’s available on Instagram and their website each week, but it’s not always accurate. We saw online that figs and persimmons weren’t available, but they actually were. Better to call ahead if you want to be sure.
