Apart from yachts and ferries, kayaking offers another perspective to admire Sydney!
Starting from Lavender Bay, we had professional and humorous instructors with us the whole time! Since we bumped into a pole right at the beginning, we became the focus of attention for the instructor, who kept us relaxed with humour throughout the trip, truly super nice.
For beginners like us, there’s absolutely no need to worry; it’s pretty safe!
Which one did we book and what are the options
We booked through the Sydney By Kayak website, two weeks in advance! There are many options to choose from, generally divided into two types:
- Departure at 9:30 in the morning, about 1.5 hours, $60 per person, with a ratio of 1 instructor to 6 students; we were 2:12 that day! Although this one doesn’t go all the way under the Harbour Bridge, so the distance and time are shorter, but on the way back, you pass by Luna Park, which I think is completely sufficient because it’s super tiring
- Departure at 9:00 in the morning, about 2 hours, $145 per person, with a ratio of 1 instructor to 6 students. The difference is that it goes further and stays longer!
Other options include sunrise/sunset tours, couples packages, etc., all of which can be found on their website.
What we think
Personally, we think it’s great for weekends, school breaks, and tourism. It’s both relaxing and a good workout!
For preparation, sunscreen is a must! Bring sunglasses! Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet! You can store your belongings; they’ll be locked in a car, but you can bring your phone and water.
When you reach the photo spot, the instructor will help you take photos, so be sure to hold on until the end.
When you’re in the middle of the sea, if there are ferries or yachts passing by, the waves can get quite big!
