Due to the Christmas storm, many Melbourne’s cherry orchards closed early this year. We originally planned to take the kids cherry picking and were at a loss for where to go until we stumbled upon this blueberry farm!
The Summerberries Blueberry Farm Operated by an elderly couple, this farm is an organic orchard where you can pick and eat blueberries on the spot without the need for washing!
The trees in the outer area are covered with mesh nets, while the inner area is open. The berries on the outer trees are larger and sweeter, while the ones in the open area are slightly smaller, probably because they’ve been picked more.
Our experience
It was the first time for our entire family to pick blueberries, and we were all excited, especially the kids. They carried small buckets, picking, eating, and playing happily. It was a super joyful experience, and we’ve never eaten so many blueberries before!
Admission for kids is free, and for adults, it’s only $5. For our family of five adults and one child, it was only $10 in total—a fantastic deal and incredible value for money!
Since our demand for blueberries at home is not significant, we only bought some, and a bunch only cost us $9. During checkout, we chatted with the owner.
Overall our blueberry-picking journey ended with satisfaction.
If you have extra time, you can also plan a visit to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery, both great places for a family outing. You don’t need to make a reservation for the orchard; just walk in.
