Where is the Best Place for Oysters in Tasmania

best oysters in tasmania

Many islands around the world are known for their “pure and unpolluted” and “primitive and simple” characteristics, and Tasmania, the southernmost part of the Earth, is one of the best.

Tasmania, known as the “heart of the world”, has extremely rich marine resources and has nurtured various world-class natural ingredients. In addition to abalone, lobster, and king crab, Tasmania oysters are also representative works.

Where to Find the Best Oysters in Tasmania

Melshell Oyster Shack

The store is quite small, like a small oyster processing factory, and across the street is the sea, where you can feel like eating them as soon as they’re caught! The price is only around 20 dollars per dozen! Paired with lemon juice or their sauces, everyone can easily eat two dozen! Their oysters are small, but very delicious and chewy! Paired with this natural scenery, outdoor tables, sunbathing, drinking soda, and swallowing oysters, it’s just perfect!

Address – 9 Yellow Sandbanks Rd, Dolphin Sands TAS 7190

Get Shucked

Located on North Bruny Island in Tasmania, is most famous for its freshly shucked oysters! You can see the oysters being freshly opened in the kitchen! We came here because of its reputation and the oysters are really big, sweet, plump, and creamy! People who love sashimi cannot resist them! You will love the original flavour and fried oysters, highly recommended! You can also order a bottle of Pinot Noir, and the white wine with oysters is really a perfect match! If you are travelling on Bruny Island, don’t miss it!

Address – Lease 204, 1735 Bruny Island MainRoad, Great Bay, North Bruny TAS 7150

Tarkine Fresh Oysters

After going to Stanley, we discovered the nearby town of Smithton, there was a highly-rated oyster restaurant on Google called Tarkine Fresh Oysters. So we went there and it was definitely worth it! Their restaurant is from the Duck Bay oyster farm, which is very fresh and their oysters are bigger than those from Coffin Bay in South Australia. From the map, it looks like the farm is also very large-scale. For those who don’t like raw oysters, you can try their grilled oysters, which are also good!

Address – 21/25 W Esplanade, Smithton TAS 7330

Barilla Bay Oyster Restaurant

Barilla Bay Oyster Restaurant is located next to Hobart Airport. The testing platter of 30 oysters has many different flavours, including three raw and five cooked varieties. It satisfies the cravings of raw oyster enthusiasts, as well as those who can’t eat raw oysters due to their sensitive stomachs. The restaurant is really considerate and thoughtful. In addition to oysters, the other dishes are also very good. We ordered roasted vegetable salad, seafood spaghetti, and eggplant and vegetable lasagna, all of which were delicious!

Address – 1388 Tasman Hwy, Cambridge TAS 7170

Freycinet Marine Farm

Freycinet Marine Farm is a must-visit oyster farm on the way to Wineglass Bay. Every time we go to Wineglass Bay, we always stop by Freycinet for a seafood feast including oysters, scallops, mussels, prawns, and other delicious seafood dishes!

Address – 1784 Coles Bay Rd, Coles Bay TAS 7215

Pearl+Co

One of the best options for eating oysters near the Hobart wharf is Pearl+Co. Their location behind the Mures restaurant is very visible and is considered a must-visit destination for travellers. Pearl+Co is dedicated to eating oysters and drinking wine. We chose four different flavours of oysters and found that the original flavour was actually the best. You can taste the freshness of the Tasmanian oysters!

Address – Mures Building Victoria Dock, Franklin Whrf, Hobart TAS 7000

Mudbar

Recommended restaurant for those coming to Launceston city – Mudbar Restaurant. A typical Australian fusion cuisine, Western food + Asian mixed flavours, not cheap, but very delicious!

Highly recommend their ponzu sauce oysters, which have a Japanese-flavoured sauce and are paired with fresh oysters from the northeast coast of Tasmania. They melt in your mouth and are extremely delicious! The restaurant is very popular and requires advance booking!

Address – 28 Seaport Blvd, Launceston TAS 7250
