Unique Sydney Tiny Steam Train Experience – Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society

Unique Sydney Tiny Steam Train Experience - Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society

On Saturday, we took our nearly three-year-old son to the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society located in West Ryde. It’s said to have a history of over 70 years and is situated in a small park. There are several miniature steam trains there, and the staff all wear clothing from that era! It’s quite fascinating as it simply recreates the complete process of train travel from that era!

Compared to the train museum, which is a 2-hour drive away, this steam train experience, just a half-hour drive from the city centre, can definitely satisfy the little ones who love trains!

What we think about the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society

From the moment you enter, the kids are constantly amazed and super excited! The tiny train, carrying so many people, is so interesting; it feels like you’ve entered a miniature world. It’s been around since 1948, and it’s run by grandpas driving the train and grandmas selling snacks at the concession stand, making it a truly lovely amusement park!

To book, you can search for “Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society” on Google to find the website. You must book in advance to enter. There will be friendly staff in uniform checking tickets at the entrance. Entry prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children, with babies free (but must have an entry ticket).

Location: In West Ryde, search “Sydney Live Steam” on your Google Map. There are residential areas and supermarkets nearby, so parking is convenient.

Train tickets: You can buy a package online or buy tickets on-site for $2.5 per ride. There are three train lines, and you need one ticket per ride. Our family experienced each line, purchasing a total of 9 tickets for three people.

Opening hours: The park is open from 1-4 PM on the third Saturday of each month!

Note: You must wear fully enclosed shoes!

It’s truly a children’s paradise! There’s also coffee, ice cream, cookies, chips, and other snacks for sale, so you won’t go hungry! The facilities including toilets are very clean and well-maintained!
Many families bring babies in strollers for a fun day out. We feel like you could visit every month!
