Looking to play in the water for the first time with your toddler this Summer? Arrange water-filled play dates with other kids (socially-distanced of course)? We all know what an exciting combination water and kids can be, so why not start planning some fun activities now?
In this blog, we’ve compiled a list of water activities you can enjoy with your kids this Summer time!
Scoops and Cups
Although filling cups with water might not be the most exciting thing for older kids, it certainly is a new and daring experience for the young ones. You’d be surprised how many toddlers simply love to hold onto something, so why not let them have some fun with their toys as well? Filling small plastic cups with water and then pouring it out may also help your toddlers with mastering their motor skills, as well as provide them with much-needed sensory experiences.
You can also mix things up by adding small toys (such as lego) to the water for your kids to scoop up. Having small toys in the water will definitely catch the attention of your toddlers!
Splash Pads
Splash pads can easily be set up in your backyard, and can even be DIYed. Simply grab plastic covering, lay it on some grass and top it up with water! Your kids will have a blast jumping around and getting their tiny feets wet.
You can also improve your kids’ experience with splash pads by adding toys, inflatables or even a slide to simulate a water-filled playground! Give your kids a few water guns and let them go crazy! Or inflate a ball and watch them play soccer on water! Anything is possible with a splash pad, and with all activities made ten times more fun in water, your kids are sure to keep entertained in a splash pad!
Water Balloon Pinatas
Making and poking water balloon pinatas is a water activity kids of all ages will have fun with. Similar to having a water balloon fight or a water gun fight, a water balloon pinata will keep your kids cool in the Summer, while also making for a fun Summer memory. The combined excitement and nervousness when popping a water balloon will certainly fill your backyard with cheers and squeals.
Along with a water balloon pinata activity, you can also organise a few mini games for your kids to play, and create a water activity play course in your own backyard!
Washing Station
Take a much-deserved break and set up a ‘washing station’ for your kids ! While not your traditional water activity, a washing station may make for a great opportunity to combine fun with responsibility. Teach your kids to clean up after themselves with a washing station, and watch them have fun playing in the water while they’re at it!
Inflatable Pools
Once familiar with playing around in water, the next thing your kids will love to play in is an inflatable pool. Start small and shallow, before working your way up! It’s best to have your kids standing first, before increasing water levels so that they can float with fitted life vests on. Perhaps even consider keeping them in wetsuits to prevent sunburn as well!
An inflatable pool will help your kids grow fond of water, as they’ll be floating around while still being incredibly safe and protected. They can splash around all they like, kick their feet and develop their motor skills, and even start to gargle and blow bubbles in the water for fun!
With all these exciting water activities to set up and play with this Summer, your kids are sure to have the most memorable time! Consider which activity is best for your kids’ ages and break out your plans on a sunny hot day this Summer time!
