Table Cape Tulip Farm – Spectacular Tulip Festival in Tasmania

table cape tulip farm

Every spring, the Table Cape Tulip Farm in Wynyard, a small town in the northwest of Tasmania, lays out colourful stripes, and tens of thousands of tulips bloom here. This is the largest tulip farm in the southern hemisphere. The opportunity to stroll through a colourful tulip field is not something you get every day!

Getting to the Table Cape Tulip Farm

The Table Cape Tulip Farm is really beautiful, however, It’s about a 4 hours drive from Hobart. It’s recommended to stay overnight in Launceston for a weekend getaway. It takes about 2 hours or a little more by car from Launceston.

When to visit Tulip Farm Tasmania?

The flower exhibition lasts for about a month every year, so you must seize the opportunity. This year, it starts from the 23rd of September until the 22nd of October in 2023. It’s closed on Sundays. The adult ticket price is around $12 per person, and it’s roughly $10 per person with a student ID.

How much does it Cost?

The entire farm is located on a steep cliff in the seaside town of Wynyard in northwest Tasmania (the nearby Table Cape Lighthouse is also a good observation point, but it costs $15 to go up and has opening hours restrictions).

Things to do in Table Cape Tulip Farm

The tulip farm has two areas, with the main area having a variety of colours, including red, pink, purple, yellow, and orange. Every colour is beautiful, and when they are all gathered together, it’s even more stunning! The garden covers a large area, and it may take around 1.5 hours to stroll around and take some photos.

Make sure to bring enough battery for your camera, as you won’t be able to stop taking pictures. Every corner is so beautiful and unique. There aren’t many tourists, so you can enjoy the romantic flower ocean and take a stroll among the flowers.

After visiting the tulip farm, you can buy some flowers at the ticket booth to take home. The price for a bunch of cut flowers is $9 (10 stems), and potted flowers are $8 (about four or five flowers). We bought a bunch of yellow flowers and a pot of pink flowers for a total of $17, which is cheaper than flower bouquets from Australian supermarkets. It’s really worth it!

Additional Tips

Due to the stickiness of the red soil, and with heavy rain before, remember to prepare an extra pair of shoes before getting out of the car, and pack them in a bag when leaving, otherwise, the car carpet will be ruined! You can also rent their rain boots, but your shoes will already be ruined by the time you walk from the muddy parking lot to the ticket office!
