Sydney’s Michelin Ramen – Mensho Tokyo

Sydney's Michelin Ramen - Mensho Tokyo

When Mensho Tokyo first opened, we heard from colleagues that there was a two-hour wait, so we decided to wait until the hype died down before trying it out! And last week we finally had the chance to try out this recently popular Japanese ramen restaurant that has a long queue and has won a Michelin award. It’s located in a small alley near the Apple Store in Sydney’s CBD, right next to Tom Yum From Hell.

What we ordered at Mensho Tokyo

Signature Toripaitan

The star of the menu is, of course, the Michelin-awarded signature toripaitan (chicken white soup ramen). The broth is a rich chicken soup made by simmering various parts of the chicken. It tastes quite good, but if you’re not a fan of rich broths, you might want to be cautious. This signature ramen also comes with three different types of meat: Wagyu beef, duck, and classic char siu, along with a soft-boiled egg.

Lobster Bisque Ramen

Lobster Bisque Ramen is rich and delicious lobster ramen. The broth is based on a creamy seafood soup and includes asparagus, spinach, lobster tail, and scallops, with an unexpected hint of almond. Each bite is full of seafood flavor, and the broth is smooth without being greasy at all.

The variety of ramen available during lunch time is less compared to the evening, if you want to try out their unique options like the Lobster Bisque Ramen and Duck Matcha Ramen you may want to visit at night. If you prefer not to wait in line for a long time, lunchtime is a good option as there are fewer people.

We also tried two pieces of Wagyu sushi, which were equally excellent. The fat was pleasantly light and sweet, and there was no need to dip them in too much soy sauce—just enjoy the natural flavour!

Two bowls of ramen, two snacks and a pot of green tea came to nearly $120 AUD. The price of the ramen is higher compared to other famous ramen shops, but if the queue isn’t too long, it’s definitely worth a try.
