School Holiday Short Films for Kids

Step into the magical world of nature and wildlife and discover the joy of connecting with the natural world through this selection of six carefully curated short films; one of which is an Australian premiere!

The short films are suitable for primary school age children to explore environmental topics ranging from the secret lives of creatures invisible to the naked eye to stories from the oceans.

“Kids are the future and it’s critical that we engage with them in a meaningful way about the environment and what needs to be done to preserve it for them,” said Nathan Senn, Environmental Film Festival Australia, Festival Director.

“These are short, fun films that primary school children will love, with an important message for all the family,” said Senn.

The six free short films are:

  • Maybe Just a Fairytale –a 6-minute Australian film featuring Australian wildlife coming to a free concert with a sting in the tail.
  • Birthplace – a music video from the Netherlands which tells the symbolic story of a man arriving on a perfect earth, who encounters his nemesis in the form of ocean trash.
  • Saccage – a 3-minute animation from France about S.A.M., a garbage collector robot in a futuristic Paris who goes after a plastic bag.  Ignoring all danger, he will cross Paris to maintain cleanliness in the city.
  • Baked Fish – a 4-minute animation from Spain about a Typical Mediterranean recipe cooked in a critical way.
  • Kuap – an 8-minute animation from Switzerland which tells the strpoy of a tadpole who somehow misses out on becoming a frog and is left behind in the pond.  A little story about growing up.
  • Dry Fly – an Australian premiere of a 4-minute animation from Spain about Margarito, a thirsty fly, with a broken wing, who sees a water drop inside of a carnivorous plant and desperately needs a drink.
