Caversham Wildlife Park is truly an amazing zoo where you can spend an entire day exploring.
Location: Caversham Wildlife Zoo (recommended to take Uber, as public transportation doesn’t go directly; after getting off, there’s a half-hour walk, and you might encounter wild kangaroos
Things to do at Caversham Wildlife Park
- Hold a koala for a photo
- Photo with a wombat
- Watch farm performances (shearing sheep + feeding lambs + milking cows)
- Feed baby penguins (might miss feeding time due to holding a koala)
- Unlimited time to feed kangaroos
Plan your visit
- Arrive before 9 am, and purchase tickets starting at 9 am (tickets: adults $33, students $25; if no student ID, COE can be shown) + Koala holding ticket (buy it at the souvenir shop on the right as you enter; the earlier you buy, the earlier you can hold a koala)
- After buying tickets (if arriving before 9 am), head to the koala area for a koala holding session (free, included in the ticket); you can touch the koala’s legs during the photo (see image 2); the koala holding ticket has a fixed time—just go according to that time (see image 1, wear work clothes).
- After the koala holding session, go to the wombat area for a photo; otherwise, there will be a long queue later (if arriving around 9:30 am, go directly to this area).
- Attend the farm performance; if you have kids, try to sit closer to the front (because feeding lambs only selects four or five children); the farm time includes shearing sheep, feeding lambs, milking cows, and wool classification.
- Go to the kangaroo area, take photos, and feed kangaroos (inside the entrance pavilion to the kangaroo park, there’s a bucket of kangaroo food for free); the kangaroos towards the back of the park are more active, while those in the front are likely to be full and sleeping.
- With remaining time, explore other areas of the park; there’s much more to see.
Things to eat
It’s recommended to bring your own food in advance, although the park has food options, the choices are limited, and there are eating areas.
Overall, although the park is not large, the ticket price is very worthwhile You can hold koalas for a long time (park staff will help you take photos, and although the photo quality may be the best, the service is excellent!)
