The Farm Byron Bay
After living in the Brisbane area for so many years, we only just discovered this farm in Byron Bay. It’s less than a two-hour drive from the southern suburbs of Brisbane. Inside the farm, you’ll find a bakery, a restaurant, a cafe, various farm-produced sauces, honey, organic foods, eggs, and more.
The farm is entirely free to enter. As you walk in, you’ll first come across a restaurant and play equipment for the kids.
Further in, you’ll find areas with little pigs, chickens, and calves. On the other side, there’s a vast expanse of orchards with all kinds of familiar and unfamiliar fruit trees.
The farm also has a stylish little flower shop, and you’ll encounter many people bringing their dogs along. You can see the farm animals, which include chickens, piglets, cows, and sheep – all incredibly cute. You can even sneak in a few pets while they munch on grass; they’re quite gentle and adorable.
Our absolute favourite part, however, must be walking into the farm’s extensive macadamia orchard. It’s filled with large, fruitful trees, and you can pick up fallen fruit from the ground. There’s a table in the orchard with a machine for cracking open macadamia nuts, so you can do it yourself and enjoy them right there. Fresh macadamia nuts are sweet and not as crunchy, but they’re really delicious. Food lovers can spend an entire day picking, cracking, and munching on these nuts and leisurely strolling around.
Additionally, the farm offers animal feeding sessions every day at 10:30. For those interested in tours, there’s one on Fridays at 11:00 and two on Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00.
Food
Inside the brunch area, there are options for both dine-in and take-away. We chose to sit in the dine-in section but also grabbed some take-away desserts. The Portuguese egg tarts were as big as my entire hand and incredibly delightful to eat. I recommend trying the sausage dish in the dine-in section; it’s quite unique!
Animals
Inside, we saw roosters, pigs, cows, sheep, horses, and you can even feed the horses yourself. Plus, it’s free to observe all these animals.
Plants and Vegetables
I noticed there were guides leading tours to explain the vegetation. With my naked eye, I spotted mangoes, bananas, kale, raspberries, and pumpkins.
There’s also a flower shop and a playground. You can easily spend a whole morning here. I highly recommend it.
The farm’s restaurant is said to be excellent, but reservations are recommended. Since we couldn’t secure a reservation, we brought our own food.
