is the kuranda skyrail worth it

The Kuranda Skyrail is a scenic cableway that takes you on a 7.5-kilometer journey through the World Heritage-listed rainforest of North Queensland. The journey starts at the Skyrail Smithfield Terminal, which is located about 15 minutes from Cairns by car or public transport.

You’ll board a gondola and travel over the treetops, stopping at two mid-stations along the way to explore the rainforest on foot. The first stop is at Red Peak Station, which offers guided boardwalk tours through the rainforest, while the second stop is at Barron Falls Station, where you can see the spectacular Barron Gorge and Barron Falls.

Our Experience

The cable car ticket check-in starts at 9:00 AM in the morning, so it’s best to arrive a bit early and queue up. You can simply scan the QR code to enter. The address is 6 Skyrail Drive, Smithfield QLD 4878, Australia.

The entire journey to Kuranda town (the final destination) takes about an hour, and there are two stops along the way: Red Peak and Barron Falls. You can choose how long you’d like to stay at each station, but if you have tickets for other attractions like the Rainforestation or Aboriginal dance shows, it’s recommended to spend about 10 minutes at each station because these activities have scheduled timings.
