Take a stroll and discover the Heide Museum of Modern Art and Sculpture Park, tucked away in Melbourne’s northeast. This has become one of our favourite places recently.
Heide Moma, once the private home of Australian impressionist artists John and Sunday Reed, Heide has evolved into a renowned art museum. Spanning 6.5 hectares, it includes five gallery spaces, award-winning architecture, and a collection of over 3,600 unique artworks, holding a special place in Australia’s cultural landscape.
There are three separate exhibition areas in total, plus a large park. This time, most of the featured pieces were Memphis-style furniture—we absolutely loved them and couldn’t help but wish we owned some!
We visited the Heide Museum and were lucky to catch an Italian design exhibition. It’s just a 30-minute drive, so it felt perfectly accessible.
The whole experience blurs the line between a private residence and a gallery. At the entrance, there’s a cozy sunken living room. As we followed the stairs down, we found ourselves in a bright, open dining area with high ceilings. The prep room faces a courtyard, its walls covered in lush greenery.
Adjacent to Heide is Banksia Park, home to a stunning cherry blossom garden gifted by the Japanese government. It’s a must-visit in spring for a delightful outdoor experience!
