Despite having been in Sydney for so many years, this was our first time walking this trail. Maybe it was because it was a Wednesday, but we were alone on the trail for about 90% of the time. The entire walk is just under 10km, and it took us about two hours with breaks to finish!
The route is not difficult, and we found it a bit more challenging than the Bondi to Coogee walk. The section from Little Bay to the Cemetery Management Trail lookout mostly runs alongside the road, and it’s a dirt path, so you need to watch out for cars. Then, from Henry Head Lighthouse, you’re walking on sandy paths with a mix of uphill and downhill sections.
Here are some highlights of the walk from Little Bay to La Perouse
Little Bay
On weekdays, there are very few people here, so you can lie on the beach and sunbathe. Right next to it is a golf course where you can watch some elderly folks playing. The chapel by the beach is a popular photo spot, and the famous frame is located right here.
Cape Banks Edge
This is a small island made up of many rocks, and the scenery is stunning!
La Perouse
A great spot to watch the sunset. If you start leisurely from Little Bay around 4 PM, you can make it here just in time for sunset! Plus, there’s a direct bus to UNSW from here!
Also, as you approach La Perouse, there’s a small beach called Little Congwong Beach.
Overall, this walk is definitely worth doing!
