December marks the peak of lavender season in Tasmania! Here’s a guide to four lavender farms and one spot to easily grab lavender products on the island.
Best time to see lavender in full bloom
From December to February, especially during Tasmania’s peak summer season. The blooming period may vary due to temperature and rainfall differences, but December to January is generally the safest bet. Lavender fields in the southern regions might last until late January or early February, while those near Launceston might not extend beyond mid-January.
Popular places to see lavender in Tasmania
Bridestowe Lavender Estate
Tasmania’s most popular lavender field, offering vast lavender expanses, a visitor center, and a lavender-themed cafe. Don’t miss Bobbie the Bear and the lavender-flavoured afternoon tea.
Admission: The Lavender Estate is our top choice in Tasmania during the summer months (December to February). Going in early January, the openness of the flowers can be seen in the picture. Personally, we feel that the lavender will be more lush towards late January to February. The early bird ticket is $15 per person, and the regular price is $20 per person. You can directly purchase tickets at the entrance; someone will come with a POS machine, and you don’t even need to get out of your car.
Ice Cream: Upon entering, we head straight to the dessert shop to buy lavender-flavored ice cream. When we arrived around 2 pm, you could still find lavender-flavored ice cream inside, but the outdoor selling point had sold out of the lavender flavor. The taste is excellent, with a subtle lavender flavor and an incredibly rich creamy texture. Despite having tried various milk-flavored ice creams in Australia over the years, this one still holds the top spot in our hearts.
Photography: If we happen to visit on an overcast day, don’t worry. Overcast skies complement the purple lavender, and it eliminates the hassle of harsh sunlight. Just stroll inside and find a suitable spot; it’s easy to capture beautiful pictures with no one around.

Port Arthur Lavender
Located near the Port Arthur Historic Site, this farm has free entry, a smaller lavender field, but offers great value products and a fantastic cafe. Perfect for families, it features delicious treats and beautiful scenery. Don’t skip the lavender indulgence – three flavors of lavender ice cream with lavender shortbread and candy.

Tasmanian Lavender Company
A branch of the above farm, this one focuses on selling a variety of lavender products but doesn’t have a cafe. The lavender at the entrance is a great spot for photos.

Lavender Goat Farm
A true organic lavender farm where goats roam in the lavender fields. You can book a visit on their website to experience lavender harvesting. The farm also produces lavender and other natural herbal skincare products.
