January – March: Lychee Picking

  1. Boambee Lychee Farm – Established in 1978, this farm is one of NSW’s largest lychee growers. The farm is only open when the fruit is ripe—no early visits.

March – April: Chestnut Picking

  1. Kookootonga Chestnut Walnut Farm – Located near the Blue Mountains, it coincides with Mount Wilson’s autumn foliage season. No entry fee, $9+/KG. Bring thick gloves and comfortable sneakers.

April – May: Mushroom (Porcini & Saffron Milk Caps) & Chestnut Picking

  1. Penrose State Forest & 48 Ross Street Oberon – Wear warm clothing, long sleeves, and thick gloves. Gently tap mushrooms to release spores and refer to the NSW mushroom picking guide.

June – July: Persimmons, Mandarins, Oranges & Lemons

  1. Cedar Creek Orchard (Persimmon Farm)- Entry: $12 adults, $7 kids, $7/KG. Hop on a tractor ride and try their local honey.

  2. Fords Farm – Entry: $10 per car, scissor rental $5, fruit $3/KG. After picking, enjoy a scenic ferry ride at Wisemans, the ferry is free!

July – August: Black Truffle Hunting

  1. Macenmist Truffle Farm – Bookings required. Join truffle-hunting dogs for a unique experience, followed by a truffle lunch.
