Best things to do on Moreton Island

Before coming, we were a bit worried about the experience, but it completely exceeded our expectations – it was incredible!

We booked at Tangalooma Island Resort through their official website. The room comes with tickets for various activities, making it super convenient to choose activities while booking.

Moreton Island is perfect for a laid-back holiday – all the main activities are within 300 meters of the hotel.

7 things to do on Moreton Island

Dolphin feeding happens every day at 6 pm, but you need to reserve between 1 pm and 4 pm. A guide will give you a small fish to feed the dolphins, and there’s a photographer taking pictures. It’s best to wear shorts since you’ll need to walk into deep water to feed them, or you can rent waterproof waders for $15 on the island.

Pelican feeding takes place at 11 am, where we get to watch the staff feed them. The pelicans fly over every morning to be fed which was very cool!

Whale watching is highly recommended. The whale-watching boat has three decks and includes a light meal. We were able to get so close to the whales, and there were so many of them! We were lucky to see several breaching moments. It’s best to take seasickness tablets 30 minutes before boarding.

Tandem kayaking was surprisingly fun. Since it was our first time, we thought there would be instructions, but they just handed us life vests and paddles, and we were off on our own! The water is so clear that it didn’t feel scary at all. We paddled for three hours and saw lots of fish, starfish, and even sea turtles.

The 4WD experience starts with a short beach drive, then goes off-roading on sand for over an hour! There’s a photographer capturing moments, it’s super fun and worth it.

Exploring the shipwrecks didn’t require a separate booking since we kayaked to the shipwrecks ourselves. It was stunning, with vibrant fish and tiny crabs covering the wrecks.

Sunset photos were included with our room package and took place on the beach. If you want to keep the photos, you’ll need to check out the island’s Photo Shop. Photos are $35 each, or $220 for an unlimited group package so take lots of photos if you’re in a group to make it worthwhile!
