Sir Joseph Banks Park
Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany, has undergone a major renovation this year. The previous large grassy field has transformed into an entirely new playground, with a prominent feature being the large climbing structures.
The old playground area has been cordoned off, indicating preparations for the second phase of renovations.
Apart from the new kid’s playground, the large animal sculptures on the other side of the lake are still there, offering a delightful spot for both kids and adults to spend a leisurely half-day.
The playground is surrounded by eucalyptus trees, providing natural shade, which is very welcoming during the hot summer!
As you head towards the restroom area, you’ll discover a hidden gem – a zoo statue garden built in honour of the colony’s first zoo. It features sculptures of an elephant, a Bengal tiger, a pair of life-sized, ill-tempered gorillas, a gloomy camel, two bears, a seated elephant, and a tiger!
Overall, it is a vast park with numerous shared bike paths and walking trails intersecting. If you plan to picnic, consider taking a stroll or biking around the area before or after lunch.
Parking is very convenient! If you’re headed to the playground and BBQ area, you’ll find a free parking zone inside the park at the bottom of Fremlin Street.
You can find cafes on Botany Road or grab a meal from Subway around the corner of the park.
