The Workshops Rail Museum
The Ipswich Railway Museum in Brisbane is seriously a blast! It’s packed with interactive exhibits, and you could easily spend the whole day there!
Location: The Workshops Rail Museum (North Street, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia)
Regular adult tickets are $14.5, child tickets
Operating Hours: 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM
There’s a mini train ride for $3 per person, the same price for adults and kids. It takes about three to five minutes for two laps. Note that it may be suspended on rainy days. On the right side of the exhibition hall, there are hands-on science activities, such as “pull yourself up,” understanding how fans and wheels work, allowing kids to feel like little scientists
On the left side of the exhibition hall, you’ll find a simulated train driving area, a children’s play area called Nippers Railway (featuring various pushcarts, tricycles, and a simulated train station operation – tons of fun), a miniature landscaped train model, and a construction room (where you can build with LEGO, among other things). Just the indoor area alone offers plenty of entertainment!
Don’t miss the outdoor train carriage assembly area. Working together with your dad to assemble a train carriage is an incredibly fulfilling experience.
On the right-hand side of the entrance, there’s a restaurant that serves some simple meals. We had lunch there, then headed back inside for more fun before leaving.
If your kids have an interest in exploring and experiencing, this place is definitely worth a visit! Museums should be more than just places to look around.
