What a gem we’ve found! As expected, you’ve got to follow locals to find the best traditional dishes. This hidden gem (Kopilicious) on the second floor serves insanely delicious Malaysian casual dining! The camping-style theme of this restaurant is rare in Melbourne! It’s a newly opened Malaysian restaurant in the city. While the chairs are in a camping style, they’re super comfortable, you won’t feel tired sitting there, and you might not want to leave once you sit down.
The atmosphere is chill and unique, with camping tents and live singers performing at night, but we went early, so it hadn’t started yet. Their menu is super long with a wide range of options.
What we have tried
Claypot Curry Pork Ribs Laksa – This is the first time we’ve had Laksa served in a claypot! The soup is so rich, with an amazing aroma of curry and coconut milk that whets your appetite. The pork ribs are tender and flavourful!
Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak – This Nasi Lemak is highly recommended! It comes with a giant fried chicken drumstick, with a crispy and aromatic coating and tender, juicy meat inside. Paired with slightly salty coconut rice and some sauce, it’s absolutely perfect. I’d come back just for this dish!
Char Kway Teow – Every dish here is genuinely amazing. This seemingly simple Char Kway Teow is not overly greasy, and the noodles don’t clump together into a mushy mess. The portions of ingredients are generous, and it has that signature “wok hei” and great taste!
Roti Canai with Curry Sauce – You can’t miss Roti when eating Malaysian food! We ordered the classic plain Roti with curry sauce. The overall flavour is great!
Kaya Butter Toast – There are many toast options on the menu, and we chose the Kaya Butter Toast this time. It’s a great choice for breakfast or afternoon tea, especially paired with a coffee.
Drinks – There’s a decent selection of drinks. For your first visit, you must try the Malaysian-style milk tea or specialty coffee. You can taste the light aroma and sweetness of condensed milk in the drinks, which we personally really enjoy!
