Best Things to Do in Margaret River

Things to Do in Margaret River

Margaret River is a highly renowned wine region in Australia, and the locals consider the red wines here to be the best in Australia. If you’re interested in wineries, you can choose a few to visit! And in facts, other than visiting the wineries, there are plenty you can do here in Margaret River!

Best Things to Do in Margaret River

Jewel Cave

Cave activities are a highlight of Margaret River. There are several caves to choose from, and we selected Jewel Cave, the largest and deepest one.

The one-hour tour showcased beautiful stalactites and cave formations. It’s worth seeing. If you have time, you can also visit Lake Cave and three other caves.

It’s recommended to book a guided tour of the caves in advance online. There are three or four caves of varying sizes near Margaret River, and you can choose the largest one, Jewel Cave. The entire tour took about an hour, going down to the bottom of the valley and then climbing up steep ladders at the end. The scenery is impressive, giving a sense of adventure as you climb up and down. Kids will also enjoy it!

Visiting Busselton

Busselton is a small coastal city on the way from Margaret River to Perth, and it’s famous for its Busselton Jetty Train. The round-trip train ticket costs AUD 16, and adding the underwater observatory at the end station costs AUD 37.

We recommend buying the train ticket as the underwater sightseeing doesn’t have much to offer. The most beautiful time is during sunset, taking the little train that goes to the centre of the sea, creating a unique atmosphere. You may even see dolphins leaping out of the water on the way back (if you are lucky!)

Giants of Mandurah

Mandurah Giant Exhibition is located in Mandurah, which is quite close to Perth, and it’s a comfortable and tidy little town. Initially, we didn’t plan to visit, but upon hearing the recommendation from our friends, we learned about a giant art exhibition taking place here!

The exhibition features five giants scattered in distinct locations around Mandurah, blending with the local environment. You can get a map at the visitor centre, making it like a treasure hunt. We could only visit one giant, while the other one is located in a park in Perth. If you have plans to visit before November, don’t miss out!

Canal Rocks

The scenery of the ocean and rocks here is incredibly beautiful. The seawater comes from the Indian Ocean, and the waves are massive. Each wave crashes into the rocks, creating whirlpools!

The Margaret River Chocolate Company

Our friends highly recommended trying the white chocolate here, and it truly changed my perception of white chocolate being overly sweet. It was refreshing and not cloying at all. The price for individually sold pieces is around 3-6 dollars each, depending on the flavour. There are also discounted prices for purchasing a whole box.

Visiting Bunbury

Bunbury is a small city with some fame for its dolphins. There is a dolphin feeding activity in the morning!
